AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami has strongly criticised the ruling DMK government, claiming that more than 6,000 minor girls have faced sexual harassment during its term. Speaking at a massive rally in Gobichettipalayam, he said the situation in Tamil Nadu has reached a point where “it is time to change the government” in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Palaniswami accused the DMK of failure on several fronts, including corruption, declining law and order, and rising cases of sexual assault. According to him, many ministers in the current government could “end up in jail” due to corruption charges. He promised that if AIADMK returns to power, it will investigate all allegations against the DMK thoroughly.

The rally took place in the hometown of expelled AIADMK veteran K.A. Sengottaiyan, who recently joined the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Addressing the crowd, Palaniswami called Sengottaiyan a “betrayer” who acted against the party that gave him recognition. He said the expelled leader should have remained quiet and that joining another party was a selfish move.

He also questioned Sengottaiyan’s decision to resign as MLA, asking whether he had consulted the people who voted for him. Palaniswami assured supporters that the AIADMK-led alliance would win a clear majority in the 2026 elections and retain the Gobichettipalayam constituency. He announced that the party’s first victory celebration would be held there, adding that the area would be developed better than his own hometown of Edappadi.

Throughout his speech, Palaniswami emphasised that no one, “however big,” could defeat the AIADMK. He said the party has always provided clean governance and would continue to do so if elected again.

With the 2026 polls approaching, his statements have intensified the political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK is positioning itself as a strong alternative to the DMK, focusing on issues of safety, corruption, and leadership.
